Dear Grade 3s and 2s,
We have been learning how to ""hum the Rock and Roll Christmas song called Jingle Bell Rock. Did you know that Jingle Bell Rock is the most popular song in our class? I know that because I collected data! Last week, we did an online survey of favourite Christmas songs, and Jingle Bell Rock was the preferred song over Jingle Bells, Silent Night and even Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Here is a link to the song Jingle Bell Rock so that you can continue to practise humming Jingle Bell Rock for our Christmas "hum-a-long." Give it a try!

It should be fun! Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday:)
Mr. D:)
Dear Students,

What is your favourite Christmas song?
Click the link below and you can make your choice. I hope you enjoy doing this!
Regards,
Mr. D:)

Dear Grade 2s and 3s,
Tomorrow (Wednesday) is our Red and White Spirit Day! Let's see if we can try for 100% participation and show our school pride. I know a mascot who would be very happy if we all of us were wearing Red and White tomorrow; Lenny!

Mr. D
PS. Don't forget to show your parents your W.W Quiz results tonight. Our students did very well this week, and Mr. D is very proud of you:)
Good Afternoon Students,
It's been a busy few days in class! Here are a few of the things we have been doing. On Friday, we got to livestream with Father Gerard as he explained the Rosary to us. We also learned more about Bus Safety and Fire Safety, and we will keep discussing both of these important topics. I know we enjoyed continuing work on our Fall art.
Finally, today we learned about using our "Cubby" area in a way that respects social distancing. (You were each given a colour code to follow.) Having the cubby in the hallway area now means that you should bring your "Indoor Shoes" to school. These are not only the shoes you'll use in class, but also in the gym. Therefore, they should gym/running shoes.
Have a grrrrreat evening students!
Mr. D:)
Howdy Students!
You seemed to really enjoy our outdoor "Clipboard Learning" activities today in the schoolyard and in the field. Grade 2s were recording their observations of animals and animal activity. Grade 3s recorded observations of different soil types. During our follow-up discussion of these observations, it was clear that a lot of learning took place during and Mr. D was impressed. I look forward to our next Clipboard Learning activity!
Below are some reminders for you:
Dear Grade 2s and 3s,
I hope that all of you had a great Thanksgiving with your families!
Don't forget that tomorrow is Red and White Day. Wear your red and white clothing to show your pride in our school!

Mr. D
Howdy Grade 2s!
Today I noticed lots of students wearing our school colours Red and White for our Wednesday Spirit Day. Well done!
For your quiz, here is a reminder of what to do when Mr. D sends the yellow quiz book home:
I hope you enjoyed our "Clipboard Learning" activity today! It was fun to go out and do print impressions of different outside objects like leaves, sticks, tree trunks etc. You seemed to enjoy our new gym game "Spud" too. Your homework tonight is to continue learning and practising your W.Ws and to do a couple activities on Zorbits. See you tomorrow:)
For those of you new to St. Leonard, each Wednesday we try to wear our school colours which are Red and White. We call Wednesdays "Spirit Days." Let's show our St. Leonard pride tomorrow and each Wednesday!
Regards,
Mr. D
Great job Grade 3s and 2s!
Today we had a chance to pick up garbage in our school yard. This helps to keep our city and region more beautiful and help protect its environment. We also learned about what is safe to pick up, and what is not, and learned how to safely remove a protective glove.
By the way, do you know why we call it "Cleaning the Capital?" (instead of something like "Cleaning the City.") Your homework is to find out why! Today was a great class-bonding activity for a great cause. Bravo students!
Mr. D:)
Good Afternoon Grade 2s and 3s,
I hope you enjoyed our outdoor "Clipboard Learning" session today. You were supposed to position yourself close to a tree and sketch it. The sketches were very impressive! The sketching leads into our Art activity tomorrow. Stay tuned!
Regards,
Mr. D
PS. Don't forget about our W.W. Quiz tomorrow:)
Dear Students,
Zorbit’s Math Adventure has landed in our class! This game is a fun way to learn and apply your math! Today I showed you how to login through our blog. Remember that Zorbits only works on LapTops, Desktops and Chromebook/Notebooks. (You can play it on an Ipad but your parents will need to download the Paid App to do this. If your parents are interested in getting the App I will need to give them your username and passcode.)
Enjoy the Zorbits adventure!
Regards,
Mr. D:)
Thank you for your patience with the Class Blog tonight! Blogger is using a new interface, so Mr. D has had adjust its appearance and it figuring out how to do this. Because I am working on it, you may have had more difficulty accessing it tonight. It should run a lot more smoothly tomorrow.
Regards,
Mr. D
Dear Students,
It was a great day after all. We didn't need to do any indoor recesses!
I just wanted to give you a few reminders:
Dear Students,
One of the Math strategies we have been learning about is "fact families." Addition facts can help you find the answer to subtraction facts and the other way around! Here is a fun game you can try to learn and practise fact families. You can increase the skill level as well to do more challenging questions. Give it a try and enjoy!
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/number-facts/number-fact-families
Wow Class!
We had a beautiful morning to do our Terry Fox Run, and you made the most of it! After our warm-up exercises, we ran around the schoolyard five times. That works out to 2500 metres, or 2.5 kilometres. Some of the Junior teachers were impressed that Grade 3s and 2s could do that many laps, and Mr.D was proud of you. (We have some future Cross Country and Track and Field team members!)
It was for a great cause, and remember that families are welcome to contribute to the Terry Fox Foundation now that you have completed the Run. Terry Fox Foundation.
For those of my students who are at home and could not join us, we missed you and don’t worry: there will be other adventures to come that you’ll be able to participate in later in the year. Have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you again on Monday:)
Mr. D
If you look closely you can see some of our runners in the background!Add caption |
Dear Students,
On Tuesday, we received our second Words of the Week (W.Ws) based on the Short e sound. Hopefully you have been learning and practising them. If a student has been away for most of the week and comes to class tomorrow, they do not need to write it unless they got the words off our blog and have been practising.
FYI (For your information,) during the year if you are away for a quiz, we don't do a "makeup quiz." There are so many quizzes during the year that you will get many chances to show off your hard work preparing on other quizzes!
Enjoy your evening!
Mr. D:)
PS. Out of all of the W.Ws activities I showed you where you get to "DO" the words to practise them, what has been your favourite so far? Mr. D's favourite is doing the words "Opera Style!"
Dear Grade 2 and 3 Runners,
We're almost there. One more day until we get to do our Terry Fox Run! We will begin at approximately 11:00AM. This year we will be walking around our school yard instead of through the community. Grade 6 students will keep track of the numbers of kilometres we run or walk. Remember that if you are away tomorrow, you can still participate. With your parents' permission, consider doing some laps around your backyard!
Here are some things you should remember to bring:
We aren't collecting donations at the school this year, but your parents/family can consider donating directly to the Terry Fox Foundation.
Have fun!
Mr. D:)
Dear Students, Thank you for sharing your awesome talent with Mr. D and the class. Thank you as well for making it a great last day toge...
