A Special Friday is Coming Up!

Good Afternoon Grade 2s and 3s,

You have been working very hard this week! For our end of the week, we  have a fun Fun Friday planne. Tomorrow, Elsa’s Dad has volunteered his time to do a presentation about his experiences in the sport of Curling. Mr. Savilll is a world-class curler who played at the highest level of his sport. I know I’m really looking forward to it; since we can’t do it in person, it’s like doing a field trip on Google Meet! Here are some other highlights:

  • Lenny’s birthday! Bring a cupcake (a tradition)  or another treat of choice to enjoy during our announcements. We will do some songs afterwards, and a Lenny’s School special edition of Trivia. Remember to wear Lenny’s Red or Black colours to celebrate!

  • Kyle’s Wild World Podcast; I know you really enjoyed Episode 1 about Koala Bears: wait until you hear about the next animal. You won’t be disappointed! (Please print ahead of time.)

  • Rocket Ships for Mars: Tomorrow, you will get a chance to show the rocket ships you did during our Independent Work Block yesterday if you wish to share it.

I know I’m excited about tomorrow, are you? See you soon!

Mr. D:)

Tomorrow is the last day of the school week, so I am going to always try to come up with something  fun and/or . Tomorrow we will be listening to our first special "Podcast." Hope you enjoyed Banana Gym!

 Dear Students,

I hope that you enjoyed our Banana Gym today! As well, I'm glad to see that students were interested in our Forces and Movement lesson and our discussion on Mozart!

Don't forget that tomorrow is Snowman Backdrop Day as well as Red and Black Day. If you wish, design a big picture with a snowman to place/hang in your background (if it's OK with your parents.) If you have a Frosty decoration, that could work too.  Remember: it's the attempt to show your school spirit that is our goal!

Here's a short lesson on how to draw a snowman:

https://artprojectsforkids.org/how-to-draw-a-snowman/

A reminder that on most days I will give two written assignments. One will be a Google Doc where you can type the answers right on the sheet. The other will be a Google Doc with photos which you are asked to print. Then you can use your pencil to write your answers directly on the paper, and then send a photo or scan to me with the completed work. Now that we have learned how to type our answers and submit them on Google Docs, it's important to keep practising doing pencil/paper work for when we return to St. Leonard's!

*** Remember: if your printer is not working or not available, you can write out the answers on lined paper.

Keep practising your new Words of the Week (Y as a vowel making the Long I sound.) See you all tomorrow:)

Mr. D:)

PS. I'll add today's number jokes to the Blog shortly.

 Dear Grade 2s and 3s,

We were lucky to have two birthdays today. Happy birthday to Lola and Straun. I'm glad you both enjoyed the loud Rockin' version of the Happy Birthday song!

Well done on your virtual learning this week, students. You got learn and practise a lot of skills in a very short time! On of the activities you really seeemed to enjoy was "Padlet." After listening to the story about Jesus healing the paralyzed man, we used Padlet to to show how we have helped others. Here is a photo of our great Padlet ideas:

I really enjoyed all of your Show and Tell presentations. If you missed it, don'T worry: there will be other opportunities during our Virtual Learning to share. I'm glad you enjoyed meeting Mr. D's Show and Tell pet; Mango, the Peach-Faced Lovebird! As I am sure you noticed, his chirp is VERY loud. Here is some information Peach-Faced Lovebirds like Mango and other Lovebirds in case you want to know more about them:

Get Ready for a Fun Friday!

 Good Evening Students

You seemed to enjoy doing your first “Padlet” message to let others know some ways you have helped others. It looks like there are a lot of our students who are willing to help others! If you were away 4th block and would like to add an idea about how you help others, it’s not too late; go to the Workspace and click on the square that says, “4th Block: Add to our Padlet.” We will do this for other topics during the year.

Here are a couple of things to remember:

  1. Show and Tell: For tomorrow, don’t forget that we will do a “Show and Tell” during our 3rd Block after lunch. We have school announcements right after lunch recess, so we’ll do it after the announcements.

  1. Art: During 4th block we will do some cool Art. Please ask your parents for a couple of sheets of plain white paper (computer paper will do) and have your pencil case with pencil crayons/markers ready.

Have a great night!

Mr. D:)

Wednesday 6 January 2021

Good Evening Grade 3s and 2s!

Dear Students,

First of all, I wanted to welcome our new student Ali to the class! We are so happy that he has joined us, and I know that you will all make him feel welcome both in our Virtual Classroom and when we get back to our classroom. We are enjoying getting to know you, Ali!

I hope that you enjoyed activities today like Wheel of Fortune and our new D.P.A jogging game. By the way, you are getting really good at moving from our Meeting to our Workspace to get your posted assignments. Remember that I will try to answer your questions if a screen, link or activity are not working. Don't panic, there is always a solution (though sometimes it may take some time.) If my help does not fix the problem during the Meeting, I will email you and your parents with a solution.

Here are some things you can do in case you are waiting for help or can't get into a document:

  • read a book

  • draw or sketch some pictures

  • have a colouring book nearby

If you finish an activity early, you may go on to Zorbits during Math or RazKids during Reading/Writing activities.

Have a great evening and I’ll see you at 9:15 tomorrow!

Regards,

Mr. D:)

PS. I put today's Winter Jokes into the Jokes section of our Blog. Test them out on your family!

Updates and Let's Go Canada!

Dear Students,

I hope you enjoyed our full day of on-line learning today. Mr. D did. I was impressed with how well our students are learning to use the "Mute" buttons for sound and video (when necessary) to make our class run smoothly. Here are some things to remember:

Spirit Day: Wear your den colours tomorrow. (If you can't remember if you are in the Red Den or Black Den, you can wear a mix of both colours if you would like.

Words of the Week: We will continue learning and practising our Words of the Week. You can start by copying them in your agenda or on a piece of paper. This week's words are Long O.

Sharing: On Friday afternoon, you can share and talk briefly about something special to you. It could be a toy, stuffie, piece of art, a pet, a new Christmas toy etc. Please make sure it is something that would be appropriate for school. If you are not sure, please ask!

Expectations: We are doing well with most of the rules for Google Meet. A reminder that we should be sitting up at a desk that is in a public common area in your house such as the Living Room, Dining Room, Office or kitchen. Please look over the expectations from yesterday's post.

Let's Go Canada! Your team cheer for our Canadian Junior Hockey team today was awesome! Let's hope they can win the gold medal again this year. I know tonight's game is late, so I promised you that tomorrow I will show you a couple of highlights from the game.

Have a wonderful evening Grade 2s and 3s!

Regards,

Mr. D

PS. Trivia: Do you know some famous Canadian NHL hockey players who once played for Junior Team Canada? I know some names.Let me know tomorrow!

Monday 4 January 2021

Well done, class!

 Dear Students,

I really enjoyed seeing you today in our virtual classroom. You did a great job participating in our lesson, and getting familiar again with Google Meet. Thank you for cooperating, and helping to make sure learning continued even if we are at home! Tomorrow, we will have a full day instead of a half day. And guess what? We get to do some gym. It will look a little different becasue of space and safety, but it will still be a lot of fun! I will be sending details to your parents for tomorrow's schedule. Enjoy your evening!

Mr. D:)

PS. I have included a copy of the Google Expectations we discussed today. Thank you for trying so to  follow them today, and I know it will be even easier to follow them tomorrow:)
