It's Halloween Week!

 Dear Grade 3s and 2s,

It's Hallowe'en week! Our words of the week are Hallowee'n words that we often come across when we are writing about Halloween. Like the Thanksgiving List, they are "special" holiday words, so they are like bonus words and more challenging. Give them a try!

Don't forget that tomorrow is Crazy Hair day. Like Backwards Day today, it should be a lot of fun.

Enjoy your evening!.

Good Afternoon Grade 3s and 2s

Howdy Grade 2s! I hope you enjoyed our Clipboard Learning outside activity today. You came up with some fantastic questions using the “W5H” model: who, what  where, when, why and how. Mr. D was impressed!

We have been talking about Community in our Religion class. We have a chance to show Community by contributing food for the Manotick Cupboard Foodbank. More details are included included in the attached Google Doc. Grade 2 families are being asked to consider donating cookies or crackers. Grade 3 families are being asked to consider donating coffee or tea. Participating in this drive will help people in our community who are in need. Thank you for your support!

Happy Monday/Indoor Shoes!

 Good Afternoon Students,

It's been a busy few days in class! Here are a few of the things we have been doing. On Friday, we got to livestream with Father Gerard as he explained the Rosary to us. We also learned more about Bus Safety and Fire Safety, and we will keep discussing both of these important topics. I know we enjoyed continuing work on our Fall art.

Finally, today we learned about using our "Cubby" area in a way that respects social distancing. (You were each given a colour code to follow.) Having the cubby in the hallway area now means that you should bring your "Indoor Shoes" to school. These are not only the shoes you'll use in class, but also in the gym. Therefore, they should gym/running shoes.

Have a grrrrreat evening students!

Mr. D:)

Lots of Learning and Reminders

 Howdy Students!

You seemed to really enjoy our outdoor "Clipboard Learning" activities today in the schoolyard and in the field. Grade 2s were recording their observations of animals and animal activity. Grade 3s recorded observations of different soil types. During our follow-up discussion of these observations, it was clear that a lot of learning took place during and Mr. D was impressed. I look forward to our next Clipboard Learning activity!

Below are some reminders for you:

October Homework: Many of our students were able to access the October Homework calendar on our Workspace. A reminder that for assignments on the homework calendar that involve writing on a Google Doc, you will find each exercise in the third column of the Workspace (coloured brown.)

For tonight's assignment, it is a Reading exercise with some questions. No need to create a new Google Doc or share it. Rather, simply click on the assignment in the third column. When you are finished, click "input" and Mr. D will get the  completed assignment. (I apologize for any confusion last night; it's a learning process for all of us and overall it went well for a first try!)

PJ Day: Tomorrow Friday is "PJ Day." This special school activity should be a lot of fun for everyone.

W.W. Quiz: A reminder that we will do our quiz for this week's W.Ws tomorrow.

Have a great evening!

Mr. D:)

Today I introduced our Monthly Calendar homework. I have now posted our October Homework calendar on Hapara Workspace. It will be great to have all of your assignments and exercises posted in one place on the calendar planner!

Here is more information for your parents on what it is and how to get on to it:

Our first Spirit Day

 Howdy Grade 2s!

Today I noticed lots of students wearing our school colours Red and White for our Wednesday Spirit Day. Well done!

For your quiz, here is a reminder of what to do when Mr. D sends the yellow quiz book home:

  • Look over your quiz.
  • Write out each word you misspelled three times.
  • Get your parents to initial or sign the quiz.
  • Return the quiz book the next day.
We have been learning to skip count by different numbers using patterns. Your homework is to try a game the Board's MathUp program recommends:

Have a good evening!

Regards,
Mr. D:)

A great day...and Red and White Spirit Day!

I hope you enjoyed our "Clipboard Learning" activity today! It was fun to go out and do print impressions of different outside objects like leaves, sticks, tree trunks etc. You seemed to enjoy our new gym game "Spud" too. Your homework tonight is to continue learning and practising your W.Ws and to do a couple activities on Zorbits. See you tomorrow:)

For those of you new to St. Leonard, each Wednesday we try to wear our school colours which are Red and White. We call Wednesdays "Spirit Days." Let's show our St. Leonard pride tomorrow and each Wednesday!

We Cleaned the Capital Today!

Great job Grade 3s and 2s!

Today we had a chance to pick up garbage in our school yard. This helps to keep our city and region more beautiful and help protect its environment. We also learned about what is safe to pick up, and what is not, and learned how to safely remove a protective glove.

By the way, do you know why we call it "Cleaning the Capital?" (instead of something like "Cleaning the City.") Your homework is to find out why! Today was a great class-bonding activity for a great cause. Bravo students!

Great Sketches!

Good Afternoon Grade 2s and 3s,

I hope you enjoyed our outdoor "Clipboard Learning" session today. You were supposed to position yourself close to a tree and sketch it. The sketches were very impressive! The sketching leads into our Art activity tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Regards,

Mr. D

PS. Don't forget about our W.W. Quiz tomorrow:)

Have a great summer Grade 2s and 3s!

Dear Students, Thank you for sharing your awesome talent with Mr. D and the class. Thank you as well for making it a great last day toge...
